Why cannabis shouldn’t be “legalized”
We simply cannot afford to misunderstand cannabis any longer
Let’s refresh ourselves on what could happen BEFORE cannabis legalization is on the table. First, we need to know how a plant was ever criminalized in the first place before we can find a solution.
Since information on stigmatized products (such as vaping, cannabis, energy drinks, etc) are misunderstood at best and censored at worst, let’s consider why maybe cannabis shouldn’t be “legalized”. Yes, legalization is better than our current response to cannabis use…. But I think we can do better.
Cannabis is a plant, a plant that once dried properly can produce various degrees of psychoactive properties (in the flowers). But you can get arrested for possession of just the stems or seeds.
How is this even possible?
The laws here (in the United States) control the freedom and the safety of its citizens. As most already know, each state governs itself how it pleases, just as long as the Federal Government is in agreement. It’s not a perfect system, but we (Americans) certainly like to think it works better than most. Currently, cannabis usage (farming, transporting, selling, possessing, and intaking) is federally illegal thanks to a really old guy. Not because it ever…
